Memorial Library

Accessible Spaces

  • Power doors at both public entrances to the Memorial Library building
  • Elevator access to all levels
  • Service animals and support aides are welcome
  • All-gender wheelchair-accessible restrooms and lever handles on the first floor
  • Adjustable height study tables and workstations on first floor
  • Quiet Study Rooms for distraction-free studying on the first floor
  • Vending machines with beverages and snacks on the first floor
  • Full-spectrum lighting on the second floor
  • Group study rooms on multiple floors. Key must be checked out from Circulation Desk on First Floor. Advance reservation recommended. Group study room policy requires at least two people. Service animals and support aides count as your group.
  • ML1034, on the first floor, is an accessible alternative to MavPods. The space is intended as a first come, first serve individual study space, and priority use is for individuals with disabilities. No key is required for entry and there is no time limit on use.
  • ML3072 and ML2057 offer adjustable-height workstations with assistive technology in a private room. Key must be checked out from Circulation Desk on first floor.
  • Adjustable-height computer workstation in the lower level Library classroom ML81 is for study use when room is not being used for library instruction.

Assistive Technology

  • Adjustable-height computer workstation with large monitor is available on the first floor in the reference area. Computer station is equipped with:

    • JAWS screen reader
    • Kurzweil text reader, provides speech to text support helpful to people with disabilities ranging from anxiety disorders such as PTSD to learning disabilities like dyslexia. For additional Kurzweil access, contact Accessibility Services.
    • OpenBook Scanning and Reading software
    • Read&Write software
    • Adobe Digital Editions
    • ClearView video text magnifier
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking is available on computer in Emeriti/Accessible study room (ML 3072). Room key is available for checkout at Circulation Desk on First Floor. This room is also large enough to accommodate a service animal or support aide.
  • Trackball mouse, headphones, and other equipment items can be checked out for in library use.

Assistive Services

  • Book Retrieval Service:
    • Library staff can retrieve books, DVDs, and other library materials for you to pickup at the Circulation Desk.
      • Using MavScholar, sign in with your StarID, then request books and other library materials by using the Hold option. Allow up to 24 hours for retrieval. Notice will be emailed when items are available for pickup.
      • Book retrieval service can also be requested in person at the Circulation Desk or by phone 507-389-5931 or email msucirc@mnsu.edu.
  • Library staff can also assist with navigating the building. Advance appointment is recommended so that staff is available when needed, but not required.
