Interlibrary Loan Policy

BORROWING

I.  Inter Library Loan borrowing privileges are available to all Minnesota State University, Mankato students and employees (including retirees with official emeriti status).

II.  The Library does not charge users for ILL services.

III.  Every reasonable effort is made to find a lender for requested items. Requested items may be purchased as appropriate.

IV.  The Supplying library

  • sets the due dates for items they lend to us.
  • is the final decision-maker as to whether to grant renewal requests.
  • sets replacement cost charged for non-returned materials and may also assess charges for materials that are returned damaged.

        Note: Replacement charges paid for non-returned ILL materials are non-
    refundable even if item is subsequently returned.

 

LENDING

I.  Most materials are available to other libraries through ILL. Generally we do not grant renewals.

II.  The table below provides detailed information on lending policy per collection/format:

III.  Lending is based on reciprocity.

  1. The Library only charges a lending fee if requesting library charges fees.
  2. If a requesting library does not also allow ILL lending of a format from their collection, we will not lend the format to them.

IV.  In accordance with the Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States

  1. Requesting library will be invoiced default replacement cost of $100 for items that are not returned. This includes items lost while in transit.
  2. Minnesota State University, Mankato may also assess charges for materials that are returned damaged.
