Statement on Potentially Offensive and Harmful Content

 

The University Archives and Southern Minnesota Historical Center contain collections documenting the University and region from the 1860s to presentSome of these collections may contain images and language that reflect outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent views and opinions and may not reflect the current diversity and inclusion values of the University.  You may encounter terms or images that are hurtful to you or cause strong emotional responses.  

 

The Minnesota State University, Mankato Archives collections provide opportunities for teaching, research, and education.  We aim to describe materials in a manner that is respectful. Some of the descriptive language reflects and re-uses the words and ideas of the people and organizations that created the material. The Archives is aware that this descriptive language may include language that is offensive. We are committed to addressing descriptions that are harmful. To report a description using problematic language, email us at archives@mnsu.edu 

 

The Library Services Intellectual Freedom Statement is included in the Collection Development Policy.  Additionally, the University Archives adheres to the Society of American Archivists (SAA)’s Core Values Statement and Code of Ethics.
